We all have a responsibility to do our bit for the environment, but how can we do that? Here are 5 ways you can help the environment today.

#1 Grow Your Own

A lot of us buy fruit and vegetables from the supermarket, but you could save money and help the planet by growing your own fruit and vegetables in your garden. It’s pretty easy to do and it will cut down on a lot of waste.

For example, most fruit and vegetables you can buy in supermarkets has to be transported to this country and it also tends to be very over packaged. All of that plastic damages the planet when it’s thrown away because it ends up in a landfill site, and that’s not good.

#2 Recycle Food Waste

A lot of people recycle nowadays, but do you recycle your food waste on top of your plastics and cardboard? Not so many people do this, but you definitely should think about it. This can often be used as compost of even to generate renewable energy. You should also think about how you can cut down on the amount of food you throw away. A lot of people buy more food than they need and then end up throwing a lot of it away, so make sure you only buy the food that you’re actually going to eat.

#3 Use the Car Less

Are you one of those people who always jump in the car, even when you’re only making a short journey? It’s something that a lot of people do, but it’s not good for the environment. Simply ditching the car and opting for an alternative will reduce your carbon footprint massively. Instead of using the car, you could take public transport. Or you could use this as an opportunity to get more exercise and get on your buy, or even work. The options are endless, so stop using your car so much!

#4 Switch to Solar

Solar power is a type of energy that’s making it easy for people to generate their own energy without the need for old-fashioned methods. Those old methods usually include fossil fuels or nuclear energy, and neither of those things are particularly good for the environment. But generating power via the sun is completely renewable and totally clean. So, what’s not to like? You can also find great solar panel deals nowadays, making it affordable for anyone to switch to solar.

#5 Be Careful with Water

Most people waste water, that’s a fact. And it’s also true that most people don’t even realise that they’re wasting water. So, you need to start being more careful about how much water you use each day. There are loads of things you can do. It’s all about quitting those bad habits that cause you to waste water. First of all you need to stop leaving the tap running while you do other things. You can insulate the pipes to make water heat quicker, so you won’t have to leave them running while it warms up.
